FREE Fly-Fishing Lesson for Kids @ Tingley Beach (February 23rd)

One of the most favorite things my family likes to do is head out for the day or even the weekend for a short fishing get away. Fishing is something we all enjoy, but my daughter and I aren't exactly the best fly fishermen. While there may not be hope for me, SHE has a chance to learn... FOR FREE!

Any kids 15 and under are eligible to participate, and are able to join OR leave the lesson at ANY time. It runs from 8am through 1pm, and ALL the supplies will be provided!

HALF PRICE Pet Adoptions!!

If I had the ability to adopt every homeless pet in Albuquerque, I would be all over that. My husband, however, isn't so keen on the idea of sharing our tiny condo with more than the two pets we already have (which, BTW, he swears are animal terrorists... and he's half right).

That's where the great people of Albuquerque come in! The Albuquerque animal shelters are having their annual January White Sale, where you can get any adult pet for half off the adoption fee, if it has ANY white on it!

Adult pets are far less likely to be adopted than the cute and cuddly babies. Kittens and puppies are cute, sure. But I have a puppy, and it produces more puppy-waste than I ever imagined.... and house training is a pain in the butt. Getting an adult animal, you are more likely to get one that already has the whole house training thing already down. This deal also goes for cats, too!

This deal is only on through January 31st, so my apologies for not bringing this to the spotlight earlier. The good news is, you still have a few days to check out the shelter pets and give one their forever home!

Here's the deets:

Solar Sundays: FREE with Museum Admission!!

I don't know about you, but I LOVE free stuff. When I pay to get something, getting a bonus just boosts the happy feeling effect. Guess what I found out?! On certain Sundays from 12pm-3pm you can participate in the Solar Sundays event at the New Mexico Museum of History and Science for FREE when you pay to get in to the museum.

Think of it this way... if you are paying the already awesome price to go to this event, then you get to see the ENTIRE museum for free. When you look at it that way, that's a pretty wicked deal. On top of that, if you have an Entertainment Book, there are coupons in there to bring the price down even more!

Telescopes, sun, and bilingual hands-on activities for the whole family. They have all kind of solar-related activities and fun for all ages, so why wouldn't you go?! It's located in Old Town, so you can also take the family on a little tour of the neighborhood and grab some lunch at the same time while you are there. This is a great area to spend the afternoon, given all the opportunities for fun and learning in such a compact location.

We're breaking out, people!!

OK, so no major jailbreaks are going on over here, but we are expanding our reach in an effort to get the word out to more people! Burque on a Budget now has a Facebook page! You can check us out and like our page here.

If you know of an event going on in or around the Albuquerque area, you can email us burqueonabudget@gmail.com and we will get it up on the site and FB too! We are happy to give shout outs to local businesses that are running specials or sales or having a community event. We will promote contests, giveaways and other promos that local people or businesses have going on, as well.

If you have pictures of an Albuquerque event that has already happened, please feel free to upload them to our FB page for all to see, and please include a caption of where you were and when the event was held along with who you were with. Small town famous, is still famous, right?!

We hope this will help get the word spread around and bring more awareness to what we have going on around this beautiful city of ours. If you have any suggestions or ideas for us, PLEASE let us know! The more community involvement we have going on, the better off we will all be. Thanks for all the support!!
